Upwind Raises $400 Million at a $3.8 Billion Valuation. A Security Startup Is Betting AI Agents Are the Next Hole to Plug.

Upwind, a cloud-security company, announced a $400 million Series C on October 28 at a $3.8 billion valuation, led by Bessemer Venture Partners, according to Bloomberg-credited reports and Help Net Security. The round came about nine months after a $250 million Series B.

Earlier reports described a $300 million raise at the same valuation; the closed round is $100 million larger, per SiliconANGLE. SiliconANGLE also reports the company says its revenue has quadrupled so far this year.

§ 01 / The Round

Bessemer led. Greylock, Cyberstarts, Craft, Salesforce Ventures, Alta Park, Picture Capital, Swish Ventures, Cerca Partners, TCV, Penny Jar and Leaders Fund returned, and Canapi Ventures is new, per Help Net Security. Proceeds go to product development and engineering growth, with sales and marketing expansion, the coverage says.

Calcalist previously reported that Datadog approached Upwind about an acquisition. We have not confirmed that approach.

§ 02 / What the Money Is For

Upwind sells runtime-first cloud security, watching workloads as they run rather than only scanning them beforehand. CEO Amiram Shachar told Help Net Security, “AI has a long reach within the enterprise environment,” explaining plans for AI sensors on endpoints, scanners for AI agents and skills, and a reworked inventory graph.

Its three agents are named by color: Blue reconstructs attacks from logs to support runtime response, Red tests whether a vulnerability is actually exploitable in a customer’s environment, and Green finds one change that can fix many findings at once. The company also launched an AI Labs for Cybersecurity research initiative.

§ 03 / How to Read a Fast Valuation

A valuation that rises from $1.5 billion to $3.8 billion in about nine months says investors expect AI agents to widen the attack surface. It is a prediction, not a result: the quadrupled revenue is a company claim, customers are unnamed in the coverage, and the product roadmap items above are described as in development.

The useful takeaway for non-specialists is the problem the company says it is selling against: AI agents reaching into enterprise systems, which its CEO describes as a long reach.

Bottom Line

Upwind's $400 million round values a company with three color-coded security agents at $3.8 billion, a bet that AI agents are the next gap to close. The growth numbers are the company's own.
