Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy.

Civic Intelligence is owned and operated by Tim Matthews (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what information we collect when you visit civicintelligence.news, what we don’t collect, and how to contact us about your data.

§ 01

Information we collect

Anonymous analytics. We use Vercel Analytics to count page views and understand which stories readers engage with. Vercel Analytics is privacy-respecting by design: it does not use cookies, does not track individual users across sites, does not collect personally identifiable information, and does not build advertising profiles.

Voluntary submissions. If you email us a correction, news tip, or other inquiry, we receive whatever you choose to send (your email address, message body, and any attachments). We do not retain that information beyond what is operationally necessary to respond and document the correction.

Server logs. Like every website, our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps short-term server logs that include IP addresses, user agents, and request paths. These logs are used for security and debugging. We do not analyze them for tracking or marketing.

§ 02

What we don't collect

  • We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
  • We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
  • We do not require accounts, logins, or registrations to read the site.
  • We do not place tracking cookies for advertising purposes.
  • We do not run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any similar surveillance-advertising infrastructure.
§ 03

Cookies

We do not currently set any cookies for tracking or advertising. If we add functionality in the future that requires cookies (e.g., reader-account sign-in for email alerts), we will update this policy and disclose it before deployment.

§ 04

Embedded content

Some story pages embed third-party content — YouTube videos, X (Twitter) posts, Truth Social posts. When you load these embeds, the third-party services may set their own cookies and collect their own analytics under their own privacy policies. We do not control or share data with these services, but loading their content means your browser interacts with them directly.

§ 05

Children's privacy

Civic Intelligence is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact editor@civicintelligence.news and we will delete it.

§ 06

Your rights

If you are a resident of the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with data protection rights, you may request a copy of any personal information we hold about you, request correction or deletion, or object to its processing. Email privacy@civicintelligence.news.

§ 07

Changes to this policy

When we update this policy materially, we will post a new effective date at the top and note the change. Minor clarifications may be made without notice.

§ 08
