Federal Agents Searched Ilhan Omar’s Home. Democrats Call It an Abuse of Power. Here Is What Two of Them Said About Mar-a-Lago in 2022.

Early on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, Homeland Security Investigations agents searched the Washington, D.C. home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). The Justice Department said HSI executed a court-authorized search warrant and called it “part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.” No charges have been reported, and Omar is presumed innocent.

Within hours, Democratic officeholders were describing the search as authoritarian. Conservative outlets answered by digging up what some of the same Democrats said in August 2022, when the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago. This page lays out what is confirmed, sets the two sets of quotes side by side, and marks what nobody outside the investigation can yet say.

§ 01 / What Is Confirmed

The confirmed facts are thin. The warrant was executed at Omar’s home, and DOJ says it was approved by a court. NPR reported the Justice Department approved the warrant. Fox News and Time, citing people familiar with the matter, report that the probe concerns possible fraud in immigration paperwork filed when Omar was a child. Time reports she was naturalized in 2000, at age 17; The Daily Wire reports she arrived as a refugee in 1995.

The Washington Post, as relayed by The Daily Wire, quoted a senior administration official saying the probe has accelerated in recent weeks. NBC News, citing two people familiar, reported a broader multi-year inquiry involving whistleblowers and documents; that detail has one source. Border czar Tom Homan told Fox in September that Omar is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation. What was seized, and what the warrant says, has not been made public.

I'm ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be…

§ 02 / 2022 vs. 2026

On Aug. 8, 2022, hours after the FBI searched Mar-a-Lago, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) posted that “that’s what happens when you break the law,” and said she was “glad to see the FBI taking steps towards accountability.” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) posted the safeguard argument: the FBI “would not be allowed to raid Mar-a-Lago without the sign off of a judge and probable cause of serious wrongdoing.” On Oct. 12, 2026, both condemned the Omar search.

The welcome mat, as a cartoonist sees it: in 2022 Rep. Ro Khanna named a judge's sign-off as the safeguard, and DOJ says the Omar warrant has one.

That's what happens when you break the law, try to steal an election, and incite a deadly insurrection. Donald Trump should be in jail. I'm glad to see the FBI taking steps towards accountability.

This is a disgusting abuse of power from an out of control president, who has been obsessed with attacking Ilhan Omar and the entire Somali American population for years. To use federal law enforcement resources to raid the home of a sitting Member of Congress weeks before an…

The Trump administration just raided the home of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. It is disturbing that they are targeting political opponents in this way. Any decent American needs to stand up and speak out.

The comparison has a limit worth stating. Democrats argue the two searches differ: Mar-a-Lago involved classified documents, and they call the Omar search politically timed. But Khanna’s 2022 test was judicial sign-off plus probable cause, and DOJ says the Omar warrant was judicially authorized. Whether probable cause exists is exactly what the public cannot see yet. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) went further, writing that DHS raiding a member of Congress’s home “is exactly what a fascist police state does,” per her X post as quoted by RedState.

§ 03 / The Probes Already on the Record

This did not arrive from nowhere. House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has separately probed her husband Tim Mynett’s firms, eStCru and Rose Lake Capital, which one disclosure valued at about $51,000 in 2023 and up to $30 million in 2024; Omar’s office blamed an accountant’s error and called the probe a stunt. We covered that record in our earlier report on the disclosures.

The Daily Wire also reports that Homan said ICE opened a probe into allegations about Omar’s 2009 marriage. Omar has repeatedly denied immigration fraud. Vice President J.D. Vance (R) said in March that she “definitely committed immigration fraud,” which Time says he said without evidence and her office called defamatory. No official finding of fraud has been reported.

§ 04 / “World War Eleven”

The Washington Post, as relayed by The Daily Wire, reported that administration officials have been calling the probe “World War Eleven.” The joke riffs on a 2025 moment when Omar said “World War Eleven” instead of World War II at a news conference, corrected herself, and laughed. It is an anonymous official’s nickname, single-sourced to the Post, not a formal case name, and we cannot say who coined it or what it signals about the investigation.

What We Do Not Know

Whether Omar will be charged, and with what.

What agents seized, and what the warrant affidavit alleges.

Whether the “broader” scope NBC described is accurate.

§ 05 / The Bottom Line

A federal court authorized a search of a sitting House member’s home three weeks before an election. Omar says it targets political enemies; the Justice Department says it is a criminal investigation. Both can only be tested when the affidavit or an indictment becomes public. Meanwhile the 2022 record is simple: the standard Khanna named then was a judge’s approval and probable cause. On this one, a judge has signed. The presumption of innocence applies to Omar exactly as it did to every defendant, and we will update this page when the court record moves.

“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.”
